The purpose of the arboretum is to provide residents of
Hamilton County with an opportunity to experience the diversity of
plants; to understand the inter-dependence of the communities they
support and their use in the landscape.
The work on the arboretum and outdoor
ecology classrooms is made possible through monies and services provided
by Hamilton County Unit #10 Schools, Illinois Department of
Natural Resources, Shawnee Resource Conservation and Development
Area, City of McLeansboro, St. James
Episcopal Church, Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation
District-USDA, Modern Woodmen of
America, Mrs. Auten's Desktop Publishing Class, George and Mary
Slankard, Hamilton Co. School Foundation, 4-R Corporation: The
Richard Rubenacker Families, Illinois Conservation Fund, Big Creek
Excavation, Illinois Preservation Fund, Schoolyard Habitat Action Grant Program, Jadel Youth Fund, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Foundation, and through the hard
